The Band Danse McCabre
Described as ‘fantastic’ by Real Weddings magazine, Danse McCabre has built an enviable reputation as THE all-girl ceilidh band in the North of Scotland. Formed in 2003, Danse McCabre has an eclectic lively style, playing a mixture of old favourites and less familiar dances as required, and includes its own Dance Callers and dance demonstrators. The band also provides music for listening at conference banquets, weddings and other occasions.

Helen Lynch Whistles, Bodhran, Caller
Helen Lynch first took up the tin whistle to entertain her baby daughter and avoid doing the washing up. A founder member of Danse McCabre in 2003, she plays up a storm and calls the dances with clarity, energy and humour, loving the way a ceilidh brings together young and old, expert and beginner, drunk and sober… During daylight hours she teaches literature and creative writing at the University of Aberdeen, as well as tin whistle evening classes for Scottish Culture & Traditions Association. She also plays bodhran, if nobody stops her, and can also call ceilidh dances in French and Polish (though not, so far, at the same time).
Anne Taylor Piano & Caller
Anne Taylor has performed on piano and as a dance-caller in countless bands across both Scotland and the USA, including JingBang, The Occasionals, The Old Blind Dogs, Shindig, Dr Twamley’s Audio Snakes & now Danse McCabre.
When not playing and dancing, Anne puts her PhD in plant sciences to good use by growing organic veg on her farm at Midmar. To try her excellent organic veg, click here: Vital Veg | Organic Produce & Veg Box Delivery | Fresh Fruit & Vegetables
Luckily her green fingers don’t impede her nimble keyboard playing.
Claire White Fiddle
Claire White is a fiddler and singer songwriter who helps put the ‘She’ in Shetland, most recently in her album Lasses Trust in Providence with Robbie Leask. A Shetlander, born and bred, she learned the fiddle with Dr Tom Anderson from the age of seven and played as a member of Shetland’s Young Heritage in Europe, New Zealand and Canada. A charismatic performer, Claire has also tutored in summer schools in Stirling, Cambridge and in the USA, and travelled as a performer, including as half of duo Blyde Lasses, to Iceland, Norway, Estonia, Germany, Ireland, Turkey, Sardinia and throughout the UK.
Claire is Shetland’s Food and Tourism Ambassador 2021, helps to bring the delights of Shetland cuisine to a wider audience through Taste of Shetland, and hosts BBC Scotland’s ‘Claire and Friends’, a programme of lightsome chat and tunes from Shetland BBC Radio Scotland – Claire and Friends
